MY RESEARCH
I am broadly interested in ecology, evolution, and conservation biology. In particular, I generally study questions related to the ecology of speciation and extinction, with particular focus on native Hawaiian plants.
C-MĀIKI SYNERGY
I am highly collaborative and use a variety of research techniques including phylogenetics and phylogenomics, experimental and comparative methods, and large-scale quantitative analyses of the fossil record. I am always excited to learn new things and I love to create research projects that are only possible by combining the complementary expertise of multiple people.
IMPACT TO HAWAII
My research, teaching, and service efforts are often integrated and primarily focused on native Hawaiian taxa. I feel humbled and honored to work with these extraordinary Hawaiian species and with the community of UH and the greater ʻohana of Hawaiʻi. I only hope to be able to give back as much as has been given to me throughout my lifetime in Hawaiʻi.
